A Quick Thought...

Here's a helpful reminder for your weekend...

“The devil has seldom done a cleverer thing than hinting to the church that part of their mission is to provide entertainment for the people, with a view to winning them…providing amusement for the people is nowhere spoken of in the Scriptures as a function of the church…the need is for Biblical doctrine, so understood and felt that it sets men aflame.

That's getting harder and harder to find these days in the entertainment-soaked culture (and sub-culture) in which we live, isn't it?

AMEN to the Spurgeon quote.

I'm so sorry I was absent during your Britain postings! I've been in Oxford and Cambridge many times and the Christian history at those universities never fails to inspire me. I only wish I could have been there at the "Bird and the Baby" with you! We could have clinked glasses in a toast to the guys who had such a major influence on us and who helped bring us close as friends!

Hey Wes, That picture of Spurgeon really looks like those old trading cards that used to come with cigarettes! That would really crack me up. Hey, I'll trade you three Moodys for a Spurgeon. Or the unlucky kid who got two Finneys in the same pack of smokes!

Then would they have the stats on the back? Kids could compare things like baptisms performed, books published, etc.

What a great idea! We could make a fortune on this idea! Megachurch pastor trading cards! This could be big! Two Rick Warrens for a Bill Hybels?

True. However, sometimes we get a pleasant surprise as I got yesterday. I had seen this church advertised on television for a year or so by a minority pastor. The ad looked like typical health and wealth type gospel. I happen to turn on the T.V. to catch a little of the Coral Ridge hour which was not on so I switched channels and caught this pastor preaching the gospel thoroughly and completely. That really made me feel good and reminded me about not jumping to conclusions.
